The Heir Apparent

However old you are, you are not prepared. You are the Heir Apparent, and some day all too soon this entire country will be your responsibility to rule. Your faltering words and fragile heart will send shockwaves over the land again and again, and of all the things you are unprepared for, the worst is this:

You are weak. There is a darkness in you that you do not know, cannot control, and can barely hide.

If you take that throne as you are now, people will suffer. Lives will end.

You must be made ready.

You Will Need

A deck of tarot cards

A way of keeping a journal, such as pen and paper, a word processor, audio recording, or social media feed.

How to Play

This game is played by answering the questions posed, and drawing Tarot cards when prompted to, then following the instructions based on the card you’ve drawn.

At the end of the game, a score is tallied based on which cards have been drawn and which actions have been taken. This determines whether or not your character successfully completes their ritual.

I had my first playthrough last night. I was impressed by how flexible the game is. For a quick playthrough I just went with some generic fantasy details but while I was playing I was already excited to play through again with more background going in. It's a great complete experience, and it has a lot of potential as a prompt to launch a larger story or game.

I could totally see a DnD player running through this game with a fallen princess, or a DM playing a ruler.

You are weak, you are fragile, you are faltering and there is a Darkness inside of you that you cannot control and can no longer hide. As the Heir Apparent, you are unprepared to rule your people, and should you take the throne as you are now, people will suffer. But you must be made to rule.

Descent into Silver and Glass is about a monarch descending into a ritual that will prepare them for their rule. You play with a tarot deck and start by drawing one card from the Major Arcana to represent the Darkness that is inside you.

Through the next 4 Acts, the game will present you questions with branching options, similar to what you might find in a visual novel or choose your own adventure book.

Some of these questions the player will decide the answer, and some of them you need to draw a card for the result. For example, if you are asked: do you jump down a hole? The player might be given the choices: If yes pull a card, if No, then turn to page X.

It’s not possible to explore all of the options in one playthrough, and due to the many options for each Act this game has a ton of replayability. Some of the choices the players make will give you additional choices and prompts so the length of the game also varies greatly.

I played as a young lady who was afraid of being manipulated by her mother and/or turning into a violent angry person like her siblings. You can find the playthrough HERE
